Former Pontiac principal pleads no contest in embezzlement

PONTIAC -- A former high school principal who spent nearly three years fighting charges she embezzled money from a school's student activities fund has pleaded no contest in the case.

Willie Aldridge entered the pleas to four counts of embezzlement over $1,000 on Wednesday before Oakland County Circuit Judge Gene Schnelz. Sentencing for the former Central High School principal was set for May 26.

In exchange for Aldridge's plea, prosecutors dismissed some other counts, The Daily Oakland Press reported. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.

Her sister, Bernice Bell, pleaded no contest to a single count of embezzlement. Five other charges were dismissed.

Prosecutors claimed that Aldridge and Bell cashed checks drawn on a school account during the 1999-2000 school year.
