Research Report: Follow the Money

January 25, 2004

A 50-state survey of Public education dollars" by Chris Patterson, with Chad Blevins and Andrew Brown, Texas Public Policy Foundation

This report looks at where our public dollars come from, and answers part of the question of where this money goes. Overall, a wonderful look at the financing of public schools, state by state

Some surprising findings include:

1. there is no such thing as "education dollars"

2. public schools are funded by a mix of local, state and federal funds in every state

3. there is a large difference in per pupil spending between the states
